PROPERTIES
BIO-VAC LA SOTA is prepared using the attenuated La Sota strain of the Newcastle disease virus, cultured on embryonated SPF eggs, freeze-dried and vacuum-sealed.
The La Sota strain, while belonging to the lentogenic virus group, has an immunizing power which is higher than that of Asplin’s “F” strain and Hitchner’s “B1” strain, with regard to both antibody response and immunity duration. At the same time, it is completely safe. Immunity begins 10-15 days after the vaccination. A few days after the administration of the virus, however, animals are partially protected against the disease on account of the phenomenon of interference.
INDICATIONS
Prophylaxis of Newcastle disease.
ADMINISTRATION
Dissolve the contents of the vial in a small quantity of water, then pour it into the quantity of drinking water deemed necessary for administration. Rinse the vial and carefully mix the vaccinal water before distribution. The quantity of water necessary for a even vaccination varies according to the age of the subject, the season and room temperature.
The following scheme shows the minimum and maximum volumes of water for every subject:
Chicken age | Quantity of water (in ml) |
0-2 weeks | 7-10 |
3-5 weeks | 10-20 |
6-12 weeks | 20-60 |
over 12 weeks | 50-80 |
In order to obtain good results from the vaccination, the following instructions should be followed:
1) make sure that no antiseptic or disinfectant substances are contained in the drinking water or in the troughs. Even traces of these substances might inactivate the vaccinal virus;
2) if possible, utilize enamelled, plastic or glass troughs;
3) make the animals thirsty by cutting water supply for 2-3 hours;
4) distribute the water containing the vaccine in a number of troughs so as to permit all animals access to the vaccine within 2-3 hours.
DOSAGE
BIO-VAC LA SOTA can be used with animals of any age, after having verified their good general conditions of health. For broilers, it is advisable to perform a previous vaccination at 4-8 days and a second one (booster dose) 3 weeks after the first administration.
In case of need (nearby sources of infection or in epizootic periods) the first vaccination is advisable within the first 3 days of life.
In the case of layers, besides the two vaccinations at the same age indicated for broilers, a third vaccination is necessary, before the beginning of the laying period, i.e. between the 15th and the 20th week, then at an interval of about 4 months.
NOTE
It must be used within 1-2 hours following dissolving in water.
The vials must be burned or disinfected after use.
STORAGE
Store in a refrigerator at +2°C to +8°C.
